Caroline MacPhie completed her studies with Noelle Barker and Audrey Hyland on the Royal Academy of Music Opera Course. She is also a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and Bristol University, where she initially read French and German. In 2009 she was selected for representation by Young Concert Artists Trust (YCAT).

Caroline has won numerous prizes and awards including First Prize in the 2008 Emmy Destinn Awards in Prague, a Miriam Licette Scholarship (MBF) and the Dame Eva Turner Award (RAM). Her studies were generously supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Sir James Caird Trust, the Josephine Baker Trust and the RAM.

Over the last year Caroline’s operatic roles have included Nerina (La Fedeltà Premiata) conducted by Trevor Pinnock, Berenice(L’Occasione fa il ladro)for Royal Academy Opera and the title role in The Cunning Little Vixen at the Banff Centre in Canada. In 2007 she was a member of Glyndebourne Festival Chorus.

On the concert and oratorio platform Caroline has appeared with the Hallé Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall (Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia Antartica), the Hanover Band at St. John’s Smith Square (Bach St. John Passion), the New London Orchestra at Cadogan Hall (Szymanowski Stabat Mater) and the Britten-Pears Baroque Orchestra (Handel Athalia, title role). She recently appeared in a series of Johann Strauss Gala Concerts, performing in all the major UK concert halls including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

An exceptional lieder singer, Caroline regularly works with pianist Joseph Middleton and together they have performed in recital at the Purcell Room and for Music in the Round, Sheffield, the Two Moors Festival and the Oxford Lieder Festival. Caroline has also appeared in masterclasses and concerts as a Samling Scholar and Britten-Pears Young Artist.

Future plans include Frasquita Carmen for Scottish Opera and a recital at the Wigmore Hall.
